How to Find a Pet Sitter
When you are looking for a sitter for your pets, you may find yourself getting frustrated. So many times you may need a sitter and your family or friends are not available when you do. In other cases, you may find that they just do not feel like having the responsibility of your pet. In any case, there are a few things that you can do to ensure that you are getting the right sitter for your family pets.
You should start out by interviewing several candidates for the position. You will want to ask a few questions to ensure that they are a good match for what you are looking for. Here are a few of the things that you should find out:
• How long have they been a pet sitter?
• Are they available when you need them?
• Can they provide the care that your pet needs?
• Do they have any pets of their own?
• Do they have their own transportation?
• Do they interact well with your pet in particular?
• Do they have any referrals of other people they have worked for?
• Are they bonded or insured?
These are just a few of the things that you need to consider when interviewing a potential pet sitter. You will also want to discuss with them the pay rate that they will want to be paid. If they meet the requirements, then you can go on and hire them. If not, then you may want to look into other options out there.
There is an association that will offer many sitter options for your pets. This is known as the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters. They are able to provide you with a sitter that has been well trained to keep pets and care for them if an emergency were to happen.
This is not an option for everyone, which is why it is important to ask around your neighborhood or office for referrals of other people who have kept pets. Usually when you get a referral by word of mouth you will be able to ensure that they are a great candidate.
You will still want to interview them and find out the answers to the previous questions. Once you do this, you will be able to see how they act with your pet in particular. Just because they did well with your friend or coworkers pet does not mean that they will interact well with your pet.
You may also want to check the bulletin boards at your local pet shops and grocery stores. Many people that offer pet sitting services will advertise on these boards so that they can get more sitting jobs.
While it is pretty difficult to leave your pet in the hands of a stranger, you will be able to rest assured knowing that you have interviewed them thoroughly. This will give you the information that you need to make an informed decision about a pet sitter for your family pet.
