Exquisite Laces in Crochet Patterns

These doily patterns were originally published in July 1934 in Needlecraft The Home Arts Magazine.

Somewhat suggestive of an old-time knitted design, these lovely matching doilies are especially pleasing for the dining room. The centerpiece is twenty-four inches across, the doilies fourteen and eleven inches.

If you are ambitious, and most crocheters are it's that kind of an art you'll enjoy developing a whole luncheon set in the lovely lacy design of the centerpiece and three-piece set shown. With all their effectiveness, such pieces are really very easy of accomplishment and grow rapidly in busy fingers. Individual doilies in white or ivory would be effective on occasional tables; or the set of three for buffet or vanity.

For the centerpiece seven balls of No. 30 mercerized crochet-cotton were used, with a No. 11 hook; and for the three-piece set five balls of No. 50 with a No. 12 hook. Finer cotton and hook will, of course, result in smaller pieces.

Work all trebles into the back loop of stitch in previous row or under two threads of a chain stitch. Each round is joined with a slip stitch made in the last of the three chain stitches which represent the first treble of a round.

Make a chain of 7 stitches and join with a slip stitch to form a ring in center.
