Do Not Call Lists

The National Do Not Call Registry was created to give Americans a choice about getting telemarketing calls at home. You can register your home or mobile phone for the do not call list for free in two ways:

  1. Visit donotcall.gov
  2. Call 1-888-382-1222

Telemarketers should stop calling your number once it has been on the registry for 31 days. With the passage of the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007, registrations no longer expire from the registry.

If you would like to remove your number from the registry, you can call 1-888-382-1222 from the telephone number that you'd like removed.

Be advised that certain organizations are exempt from the do not call list rules. These organizations include calls from or on behalf of political organizations, charities and telephone surveyors.

You may also receive calls from companies with whom you have an existing business relationship with or companies whom you have given permission to call. However, at any time you may request that these companies put your phone number on their do not call lists, and they must honor your request.

If you believe a company is violating the law by continuing to call you even though you registered your phone on the do not call list more than 31 days ago, you may file a complaint on the National Do Not Call Registry's website.

Did you register your home and/or cell numbers on the Do Not Call Registry?

Great information Deb. Also don't put your phone number on internet forms. If they make it a required field make up a number. I use 222-222-2222. God only knows who all they sell your number to. They have my email they don't need it.
